I’m super nervous about doing another brew and putting it in the primary only to find out a week later that it is super metallic. I then read up on it some more and decided that maybe I needed to passivate the metal so I did that with a paste of Bar Keepers friend (oxalic acid), a star San rinse, and a boil rinse at the end. I then did another batch and was extremely disheartened when I gave it a taste after the primary was done and it was still extremely metallic. Anvil Stainless Steel 7. The new ANVIL Crucible conical fermenter is the hands-down best value in a stainless steel conical fermenter on the market. I washed/soaked the crap out of it with PBW and then did a star san rinse and saw lots of black junk on the drying rag when I was done. My guess was some oil or residue on the bucket from production. There was a black ring on the side of the bucket at the krausen line that smelled super metallic and the beer itself tasted extremely metallic. The first was my fault because I didn’t do a super thorough cleaning of it before using it. I just picked up an Anvil stainless steel bucket fermenter and had to dump 2 batches.
